One of the biggest parts of choosing the right layout is knowing what is available. It’s one thing to view a layout on our website or research other online resources but to truely gain perspective of what a layout is like in the real world, nothing beats seeing a multitude of layouts in person. 1. Comfort is King

Once you have looked through a dozen motorhome designs, you do start to get a feel for what might work for you and what might not. A lot of your choices will be informed by how agile you are since you are hardly going to want to choose a layout that has you clambering up a ladder to go to bed if you have a bung knee or hip! If you are still spry, the world is your oyster but if your mobility is limited that’s ok too. From flat floor motorhomes that have no step between driving cab and the living section to the Avida Birdsville with super low entry, we have a layout that will optimise your comfort! Do you need a spacious bedroom with a comfortable queen bed? Or perhaps you prefer a convertible sleeping area and a smaller motorhome for easier parking? Some larger motorhomes offer both great sleeping areas and expansive living areas (e.g Avida Longreach and Avida Freemantle) but more compact motorhomes like the Avida Leura or campervans like the Diversion, Avida LX 4x4 or Avida Escape have to take a smarter approach. The Avida Leura and the Avida Escape for example, feature a clever roll down electric bed that converts a spacious living area into a spacious bedroom! The Avida Leura even has a full sized (for an RV) bathroom with separate shower and toilet!

A well-designed RV layout means everything has its place – and is within reach. Cooking, eating, and relaxing should feel seamless. Look for layouts with practical kitchen setups, enough counter space, and a dining area that works for you. By the way, be sure to take note of the clever fold down bench space in most of our Avida RV Models including the Avida Esperance, Birdsville and Longreach. This clever feature doubles your food prep area and then folds away out of sight when not needed! If you enjoy entertaining, layouts with a spacious lounge or wraparound seating are ideal. The Avida Esperance has featured a wrap-around lounge for many years and is so popular because in addition to the large lounge, it features a large slide-out that dramatically extends the living space when you are stationary. Now let’s talk about the flow from bedroom to bathroom to living space. The floor plan in the Avida Freemantle is a new and refined version of a hugely popular layout featured in both our old ‘Winnebago’ Alpine 27 footer. This floor plan (later featured with the mid-sized version of the Avida Longreach) provides an impressive bedroom with a privacy door separating the bedroom, shower and bathroom from the main living space. The bedroom features a generous slide-out that delivers exceptional floor space for changing and generally moving around the bedroom and having the shower on one side and bathroom / toilet on the other is beautifully functional.

When the Avida RV design team are considering flow and functionality, they pay special attention to transition spaces like hallways and doorways. The best layouts ensure smooth movement between different areas of the RV, with no awkward corners or tight squeezes. Smart design features like sliding doors instead of swinging ones make a significant difference in daily usability.

3. Storage That Works for You

Storage can make or break your motorhome experience especially if you want to take everything you own with you. Some would say more storage space is better but we think clever layouts that give everything a logical place are what everyone should aim for. The Avida Longreach, for example, excels with its intelligently designed kitchen storage, featuring deep drawers, overhead cabinets, and a spacious pantry that makes organising supplies a breeze. For motorhomes featuring a fixed bed in the layout you'll typically find a cavernous storage area below which is perfect for larger items. Some motorhomes offer easy external access through side hatches to gear stowed inside. The Avida Esperance, Freemantle and Longreach offer particularly generous storage bins underneath the vehicle. These bins give perfect access to camping chairs, tables, tend pegs and tools. The Avida Longreach actually has a full size pull-out camp kitchen for cooking out doors. it’s pretty amazing!

Overhead lockers are also a major part of any motorhomes storage offering but if the bins are over the bed, they can be tricky to use. Look for strategically placed storage bins that offer easy access while standing and you will never be frustrated when you go to access clothes, bedding, and personal items. In a larger motorhome, it’s great if a dedicated wardrobe with hanging space is included. In the Avida Leura, it offers not only one of the largest bathrooms but one of our largest wardrobes too. All this in a tiny 6.8m long footprint - it’s very impressive. While we are talking about storage space, don't overlook the driving cab area. From cup holders to document storage and electronic charging, the driving cab plays an important role in the storage mix and different models approach storage in their own way so be sure to sit up front and consider the items you need quick access to while traveling.

With the advent of new Avida RV models like the Avida LX Offroad 4x4 motorhome, your destination and travel style may also guide your choice of layout. Planning off-grid adventures? Prioritise layouts with solar setups, water tanks, and compact designs that make navigating rural areas easier. Travelling with pets?
